Welcome to richmurphyart

Since graduating with a first class honours degree from Chelsea School of Art in 1985, Richard Murphy has lived and worked in his hometown of Bristol. He uses a wide range of styles and techniques and his recent works have incorporated inks, acrylics and resins.

Richard has an elemental fascination with water, which is reflected throughout his work. Local scenes, especially rivers and waterways in and around the city, inspire him and are often requested as commissions. He has pieces in private collections and has exhibited in two RWA shows

The fluidity of his work creates a narrative of places that have inspired or moved him. This is enhanced by the subtle textual references found in many of his paintings, which help to recapture the moment and evoke a sense of place and atmosphere. In this way, he hopes to share the affinity he feels for the places he paints, be it a tranquil river or busy wharf.
Rich has carried out many private commissions and is open to new ones.
